We will not be offering in classroom instruction until travel restriction are eased. Transport Canada approved SVOP is required for most small commercial vessels (November 2009). The Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) course has been designed to instruct owners and operators of small Non-Pleasure vessels on the proper safety and operating procedures as required by Canadian law. Topics covered will include, but not limited to: terminology, vessel type recognition, general seamanship, Collision Regulations, stability, safety, marine weather, navigation, vessel operation, emergency procedures, search and rescue, environmental responsibilities. This course meets the requirements of a stand-alone course that addresses the particular need for minimum training of operators of commercial vessels, other than tugs and fishing vessels, up to 5 gross tonnage engaged on a near coastal, class 2 or a sheltered waters voyage, and for fishing vessels up to 15 gross tonnage or 12 meters overall length engaged on a near coastal, class 2 (including an inland voyage on Lake Superior or Lake Huron) or a sheltered waters voyage. To determine if this training applies to you, contact Transport Canada, Marine Safety. "I was very impressed with Bruce Stott's care and diligence with respect to safety and feel that your company would be an excellent recommendation for our folks to obtain the necessary competencies when out on the water..." Amanda M. Maritime Radio certificate is also available. Contact for details.
